A letter to my readers (and all the rest concerned)
On feeling guilty, quitting things and going away to rest
Dear Reader,
I’m writing my way back to…writing letters.
It’s not modern, but I’m tired of being modern. I want to try and be unmodern for some time and in some ways. I have just deleted most of my social media and messaging apps and I hope I did so for at least two weeks.
I want to disappear, digitally first and foremost.
I do feel guilty for doing that
As a 28-years old, I’m of a generation – whatever our name is – that grew up extremely interconnected. It didn’t happen overnight, but still, we grew more and more connected to each other too quickly. Early smartphones and SMS messages made us very connected. With the rise of social media first and messaging apps later, we became extremely, hazardously connected. One moment I was a child and the next I was a receptionist – both expecting and expected to receive/give an almost instant reply to a message. A delayed response quickly earned a status of you don’t care about me and you don’t love me, right? amongst us.
We think being online is necessary and being online is a must.
