How do you rest?
On this first day of the new year, I — surprisingly — draw myself to rest
The year starts with a sombre undertone in the weather. The last few days of 2023 were abnormally warm and sunny — like a Christmas gift from Mother Nature to her Human Children. Did we behave well lately? Was she being condolence to our sufferings? Whatever the answer is, one thing is certain for this part of the world — the last year, no less than the year before, sucked. Hence, a few warm days at the end of it felt like a nice respite.
The respite is over.
The cold days are returning.
The winter is about to resume its normal winterish activities – it will snow, it will wind, it will hide the sun under grey clouds. Grey clouds look like heavy, soaked rags after deep cleaning an apartment. They’re dirty and it’s time to wring them out, but it’s not going to happen. The rags are going to stay on the skyline for a while, I reckon.
Nature needs to rest.
It’s the first morning of 2024. I go for a walk. Kyiv is spacious. Kyiv minus people is even more so. It’s so peaceful. Most stores, cafes and restaurants are closed today. Most kyivites stay home to deal with leftover salads, meats and cakes.
